Town Hall's bottled water ban

BOTTLED water has been banned from all council-run buildings in Bolton.

Instead staff and councillors at the Town Hall, local authority offices and schools are being told to drink tap water.

The move was suggested by council leader, Cliff Morris, in a bid to help save the environment and promote the use of the region's tap water supplies.

It was given cross party support at a meeting of the full council this week.

The move will lead to all water coolers which have large plastic bottles on top being removed from council buildings. Smaller bottles, which are sometimes supplied will also be banned. They will be replaced with water fountains which will be connected to the main supply.

Cllr Morris said: "This is a green issue and we felt we should lead by example.

Time to look back on some horrible predictions

Dan Pompei of Sporting News declared, "Plummer still can play and likely will prove it next season." Paul Attner of Sporting News forecast the same: "Plummer will return to the NFL" for the 2007 season. ESPN.com's Jeremy Green speculated, "If Plummer ends up in Houston, he might have to sit behind David Carr." Plummer did not come back, and Carr wasn't in Houston either.

Then there were the Rex Grossman predictions. "There is no question the Bears are committed to Grossman as their starting quarterback next season," Pompei of Sporting News predicted. The Bears benched Grossman twice, starting three different quarterbacks. Gene Wojciechowski of ESPN.com predicted, "Grossman will be fine. No way does he throw another 20 interceptions." Grossman threw only seven interceptions -- because most of the time, he was benched.

Super Bowl's Big Score: 97.5 Million Viewers

Sunday's crowd edged out the previous record of 94.08 million when Dallas sacked Pittsburgh at the '96 Super Bowl.

But, despite its made-for-TV back story and the fact that there are 70 million more people in the country than in 1983, the Patriots-Giants game couldn't touch the '83 broadcast of the "M*A*S*H" finale, which remains the most watched broadcast in U.S. television history, with an average of 106 million viewers.

For ratings purists, a.k.a. ratings wonks, who believe we should compare household ratings instead of numbers of viewers -- just because the country's population keeps growing -- this year's game is not a record, though it's the highest rated since 1997.

Household ratings measure the percentage of the country's homes with TVs tuned in to a show.
